Collection: Äänieristys

Butyl-based sound deadening mats form the foundation for insulating your camper van. The PSB sound deadening mat in our selection eliminates sheet metal vibration and rattling, making driving significantly quieter and making the vehicle feel more solid.

What does butyl mat actually do?

Butyl mat alone does not actually insulate sound, but rather dampens the vibration of the metal panels. A van has a lot of thin sheet metal surfaces that, without insulation, resonate like a drum. By adding mass, the vibration stops and the sound disappears.

However, butyl mat alone does not create perfect sound insulation; thermal insulation and upholstery are also needed to suppress road noise.

What percentage of the area should be covered?

Approximately 25–30% of the area is sufficient for almost complete damping when the pieces are placed in the middle of the panels, where vibrations are strongest. The edges are already rigid.

Is a roller necessary?

Yes. Butyl only adheres when pressed firmly onto the surface. Without a roller, air pockets will form, the mat will detach in heat, and the sound-dampening effect will be a fraction of what it should be.
