How do I choose the right inverter?

What is a pure sine wave inverter?

Low-cost modified sine wave inverters produce a rough, stepped electrical output. This can cause motors to buzz, chargers to overheat, and some electronic devices to malfunction—or even become damaged.

All inverters sold by Vanset produce a pure sine wave, delivering electricity that matches the quality of the power grid. This ensures that virtually any household appliance operates safely and efficiently.

What does the UPS function do?

All of our inverter models feature a built-in automatic transfer switch (UPS function).

When your camper is connected to shore power at a campsite, your appliances run directly from the mains while your batteries recharge.

As soon as shore power is disconnected, the inverter automatically takes over:

  • Pure sine wave inverters: switching time under 50 ms
  • PRO inverter chargers: switching time under 20 ms

The transition is so fast that your devices continue running without interruption, and no manual switching is required.

Inverter or inverter charger?

A standard inverter is the right choice if you recharge your batteries using solar panels or a DC-DC charger while driving.

Choose a Renogy PRO inverter charger if you regularly connect to campsite shore power. It combines:

  • A pure sine wave inverter
  • An 80A or 120A smart battery charger
  • An automatic transfer switch

This all-in-one solution saves space, reduces wiring, and simplifies installation.

PRO models support LiFePO4, AGM, Gel, and Flooded lead-acid batteries with fully adjustable charging parameters. They also include RCD protection and dry contacts for generator control.

What size inverter do I need?

The correct inverter size depends on how much power you use at the same time and how much continuous discharge current your battery can provide.

1000W Inverter

Ideal for light power use, including:

  • Phone charging
  • Laptop
  • LED lighting
  • Small compressor fridge

Requires approximately 100A continuous battery discharge current (check your battery specifications—this is not the battery capacity in Ah).

2000W Inverter

Suitable for medium power demands, such as:

  • Microwave oven
  • Small electric kettle
  • Multiple household devices

Requires approximately 200A continuous battery discharge current.

3000W Inverter

Designed for high-power applications, including:

  • Multiple appliances running simultaneously
  • Induction cooktop
  • High-power kitchen equipment

Requires approximately 300A continuous battery discharge current.

For a 3000W inverter, we recommend at least two batteries connected in parallel from the Vanset Store range.
